What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a gentle, evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from trauma, anxiety, and other distressing experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR helps your brain process stuck or overwhelming memories so they no longer feel as intense or triggering.

During EMDR, you’ll focus on a specific memory or feeling while engaging in bilateral stimulation—often through eye movements, tapping, or sounds. This process helps your brain reprocess the memory in a way that feels more manageable and less emotionally charged.

EMDR doesn’t erase the past, but it helps you move forward without being overwhelmed by it. Many clients find relief more quickly than with other forms of therapy.
